If there is anyone who follows my blog, you'll notice I've taken a bit of a hiatus from posting. Not because I wanted to, or meant to though. I was doing so good posting every other week, thinking of new topics to write about, and taking the time to put my thoughts into words. I was sharing my blog, trying to promote myself and my writing, and in the several months I did that, I found it to be really... exhausting.
I have never been one to self-promote. I don't share my writing with almost anyone, and I rarely feel I have any real insight or value that no one else possesses. So, this whole blog has been really outside of my comfort zone. However, I did it because I wanted to think more critically about my craft, work on my confidence as an authority on this topic, and I wanted to try and build a bigger community of writers. I thought that by posting regularly, I would be able to create more of a following. I spent so much time on Twitter and even LinkedIn trying to build connections in the writing world, and again, I just found it to be draining with very little actual growth.
I think when you're in that situation, where you're trying so hard to do something so unnatural, life has a way of forcing you to slow down. I pushed myself really hard to post consistently and to promote it, etc, and then– like a ton of bricks– life got in the way. I had family visit, then I started feeling sick, and then I just kind of forgot about it. The time I had worked so hard to set aside to write my blog eventually washed away. I had worked to build a solid habit of it, but like so much else, it crumpled easily under pressure.
All of this to say, I didn't mean to take a break. It just kind of happened. I posted consistently for over 20 weeks, and I'm so thankful to all of you who read those blogs and followed my progress and signed up for my newsletter. I'm sorry I stopped without warning. I think you'll all understand when life just gets in the way, especially when it comes to creative endeavors. So... now I've had my break. I took four weeks and got myself back together. I finished grading my summer semester, ended the teaching certification course I was in, and am done with having family visit for now. I used that time to rest, and think, and hopefully, I'm coming back to this blog with new energy and ideas. I hope you'll continue to follow me as I work back into the groove of posting every other Monday. Thank you again for your following and your patience as my body and mind forced me into a much-needed break.
